Don't Skip the Chocolate on Valentine's Day

We love chocolate! And eating chocolate is one of the most popular ways to celebrate one of our favorite holidays, Valentine's Day! Not only is it delicious, but did you know that dark chocolate has some benefits to your dental health too?

There are all types of chocolate. But it's the cocoa bean that contains the tannins, polyphenols and flavonoids that help fight off bacteria in your mouth! The darker the chocolate, the more benefits to your teeth, gums and breath!

Chocolates that are 60 percent cocoa or more tend to offer the most benefit. So avoid the sugars, sodas and sports drinks, but you don't need to skimp on the chocolate for the holiday!

Just be sure to always rinse your mouth with water after eating. Don't forget to brush twice a day and floss once a day. You can have a healthy mouth and enjoy some yummy dessert too!

You'll find most chocolate options available at your local grocery stores.
