Dentists and Dairy

June is National Dairy Month, and with that many of us think of the value of milk. Calcium and Vitamin D come to mind.

Calcium and Vitamin D are essentials for strong bones and teeth. Get the recommended calcium and Vitamin D daily as part of your overall health.

There are many ways to get calcium in so many different dairy products. Milk, cheeses, cream cheese, ice cream and yogurts are all delicious ways to get your much needed calcium and Vitamin D.

And if you're dairy intolerant. Don't forget almonds and green leafy vegetables which are also a good source of vitamins and calcium, especially greens like spinach and kale. There are also a variety of plant-based milks, like almond, coconut and rice milks.

You can also get a good dose of Vitamin D from spending some time in the sun. Albeit be cautious of sun over-exposure, the sun provides natural Vitamin D. Take a walk or read a good book outdoors. Natural sunlight is an excellent way to get your 'D'!

Make sure you get your regular dental check-ups in, floss and use a fluoride toothpaste for strong teeth. But don't forget to take in the necessary Vitamin D and calcium to get your bones and teeth strong.

This proper nutrition will help prevent tooth loss as we age. Strengthening our teeth now when we can, will help us have healthier smiles in the future.
