What Makes a Cavity?

Sugar isn't the only thing to think about when you want to prevent cavities. Many people don't consider that genetics, bacteria, saliva, diet, and the basic Ph balance of your mouth can contribute to cavities.

Many people think that by avoiding sugary drinks and foods, you will avoid cavities. But many times our genetics and/or saliva will contribute to the cavities. Sugar is what contributes to bacteria. Bacteria is something that is a key culprit to cavities.

With too much bacteria, plaque is formed. Plaque can be removed during dental cleanings, and by brushing regularly with a fluoride toothpaste.

Flossing and using a flouride rinse daily can also help with bacteria build-up and prevent cavities.

The lower the Ph of your mouth, the more your mouth becomes more acidic, creating more bacteria.

Try to eat lots of greens and healthy fruits and vegetables along with rinsing your mouth with water.

And don't forget to visit your dentist twice a year for a cleaning.
