Happy National Pet: Brush Your Dogs Teeth!

April is National Pet Month. It’s a great time to remember that dogs need dental care too. What they eat can help with oral care too. Crunchy, chewy treats can go a long way in a pet’s oral hygiene. The Veterinary Oral Health Council sets standards for pet oral care products, so be sure to look for their seal of approval on your pet oral care products. Brushing your pets’ teeth is very important, just as it is for you, so make sure you invest in some dental care products for your pet, like toothbrushes, toothpaste or dog dental pads. Most of these products are available at pet stores.

Toothbrushes - Dog toothbrushes are particular to a dogs mouth and a finger attachment is included to make it easier for the pet owner.
Canine toothpaste: You’ll need to pick a toothpaste that is safe to swallow, as dogs don’t usually spit. They also have assorted flavors that are keen to dogs senses, like beef, seafood, poultry, etc.
Dental pads: If you don’t have the products above, a simple wiping of your dog’s teeth can be effective. There are even dental pads available at pet stores.

Brushing your pet’s teeth regularly will help him/her become accustomed to the habit and routine. Have fun with it, and use this time to bond with your pet. Remember, the tastier the toothpaste, the more agreeable your pet will be to participating in the brushing.

Happy National Pet Month!
